Jamie Raskin, Big Macher

This is a tight and somewhat fussy drawing of Jamie Raskin, attorney, professor, congressman, and big macher on the January 6th Committee, currently seeking to clarify exactly what happened when the Capitol was attacked in January 2021.

In French he would be called a “beau laid”— or handsome ugly person with his long face and tight-knit cap of curls. To me, listening to him speak and watching the spread of emotion across his face, he seems normal — like someone I could actually be friends with rather than my idea of a crass, glad handing politician.

I really knew nothing about Raskin until he became lead manager of the second Trump impeachment. I’d heard he had buried his twenty-five-year-old son, Tommy, on January 5th. The next day a hoard of people attacked the Capitol and not many hours after that, Raskin began working on an article of impeachment against Donald J. Trump.

Now he’s one of the most eloquent members of the January 6th Committee and I hope people’s ears open and their eyes see the truth, so that America’s worst President can never ever run again.
