David Groff
This is a drawing of my good friend and editor, David Groff. Over the years we’ve been in many adventures together — researching creepy subjects, like mothers who kill their children, gentlemen’s clubs in Austin, alcoholic blackouts. Wanting to write film scripts, we cut our teeth at the Austin Film Festival where everyone was frantically running around brown nosing directors and producers, the atmosphere cut throat and chilling. We followed our vision and traveled to L.A. with a script we worked like hell on, but didn’t manage to sell.
When he was at Crown, David published my novel, Hearts of Glass, about four women getting sober from alcohol. We’ve been friends ever since. David is a great editor, putting me through I don’t know how many revisions on my most recent novella, slashing sentences right and left. But the story is the better for it. And my life is the better for knowing David.
