Susannah

Susannah

Susannah

This photo was taken off a Zoom screen. The person in question, Susannah, whom I know from my ecstatic dance practice, is outspoken and full of vitality. Her face fascinates me. Also her penchant for wigs (I can rock a wig myself). And the fact that she looks different -- in a subtle way -- every time I see her.

Perhaps because her face changes expression so rapidly, I decided to do several drawings of her:

However, they all look pretty much like the same woman, good-natured, forgiving, a person with a strong sense of humor. I can almost always get resemblances, even quite striking ones at times. It’s the drawing itself that frequently needs work: messy lines, clumsy shadowing, heavy-handedness. I will have to keep practicing.
