Ken Paxton, Trumpier than Trump

Nicole Jeffords (2022)

This is a drawing of Ken Paxton, attorney general of Texas, and, in my opinion, a great example of crookedness in government. How, one might ask, could someone under indictment run for office? Well, in the great state of Texas, it seems one can. Paxton was being investigated for securities fraud even before securing his position as Attorney General. Imagine that, the highest lawyer of the state being probed for unlawful financial activity the whole time he’s been in office. The guy just doesn’t smell good. There’s the story of the stolen $1,000 fountain pen. (Paxton was light-fingered enough to filch it from a tray on a conveyor belt going through airport security.) There are the claims of wrongdoing from peers. And recently, the anger and outrage arising from Paxton’s scourge of trans children, his claim that they are being abused and mistreated by parents who give them puberty blockers and other hormones. This is all political, of course. Paxton wants to be Trumpier than Trump. My question is, why does he always have to focus on the little guys, the ones who have no power? I guess the answer to that is obvious.
