Tammy West is an environmental artist who lives in Austin, Texas. Her work involves looking at changing geographical areas — such as retreating glaciers in Iceland or drought-cracked earth along creeks and beaches in Texas — and coming up with artistic fixes to save them. Studying her magnificent photos, one is amazed by the artist’s prescience as she offers small scale solutions to our staggering climate problems. I felt lucky to be able to see her show at the Prizer Gallery — a real eye opener, especially as she was there to explain the photos to me. And I feel lucky to count her as a friend with her contagious laugh and blunt opinions. She’s an artist and a seer. Can’t beat that.
